Fatigue? How to Break Habits That Make You Tired

Introduction

Would you like to to beat your chronic fatigue and improve your energy levels?

One of the easiest and most efficient ways to beat fatigue is to look at the things in your life that are draining your energy and remove them. Rather than being an additive way to improve your energy, this is a ‘subtractive’ method. In other words, you are improving your energy by doing less and not by doing more – which is considerably easier when your energy was low to begin with and taking on new challenges can be exhausting.

But which habits should you break if you want to beat your fatigue and get back your energy? Here are 3 of the top candidates.

More reasons can be found here...

How Too Much Tea and Coffee can make you Fatigued

If you use a lot of caffeine to power you through the day, especially in the afternoon and evening, this can severely hamper your sleep and energy levels and may even be what’s making you fatigued and make it hard to get up in the morning. (What to do when sleep doesn't help..)

Why is that?

When you drink caffeine, it looks like the molecule ‘adenosine’ in the brain. This is a molecule that builds up over the day and which eventually comes to make us feel fatigued and groggy. However, because caffeine emulates adenosine, it can ‘plug’ the adenosine receptors thereby rendering it inert. The result? An artificial feeling of energy and drive.

This eventually leads to tolerance and dependence. The brain produces more adenosine receptors to counteract the perceived lack of adenosine and as such you need more caffeine to feel normal. This in turn leads to withdrawal and this can make you feel extra fatigued in the morning and may even give you a headache!

Smoking and Fatigue

Nicotine is a stimulant and an appetite suppressant.  When you smoke, you also inhale a large amount of harmful gases which can severely damage your lungs and lead to generalized inflammation in your body. Eventually, this can lead to a greatly impaired lung capacity which makes it hard to breathe and have the energy to  simply move around.

Procrastinating (or “multitasking” “just being busy all day”)

Procrastinating wastes your valuable time without giving you the ‘permission’ you need to properly rest. This will leave you with a feeling of being fatigued and not really having achieved anything.
